Extra curricular activities at our school:
Academic opportunities
The competitive arena awaits students with the chance to excel in public speaking, debating, web design, student newspapers, environmental management and much more.
Explore the arts unit's website to find out about state-based and national debating, public speaking and spelling events.
Choir
We have two performing choir groups for students in Years 3 to 6. These are our:
- Years Three and Four Choir who perform in the Primary Proms held at the Sydney Town Hall
- Years Five and Six Choir who perform in the ArtsNorth Festival at the Sydney Opera House.
Our senior students have sung in the Schools Spectacular. Each year our choirs and bands perform at a combined Music evening in December which showcases students' talents. For choir enquires please email the school on curlcurln-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
Our K-2 students engage in grade Singing for the development of music concepts such as rhythm, pitch and dynamics.
Dance
Years 3-6 students have the opportunity to audition for a place in our Sydney North Dance Festival groups. This selected group of 24 junior (Years 3-4) and 24 senior (Year 5-6) students then practises throughout Terms 1 and 2, before performing at the Sydney North Dance Festival.
The senior group auditions via video for the Schools Spectacular held at the Entertainment Centre in November of each year. If successful 12 -16 children are selected for this amazing opportunity to perform before thousands of people with a cast of 3000 students.
Drama
Drama is an integral part of class programs at Curl Curl North. Our link with the University of Sydney has provided teachers with the opportunity to engage in Professional Learning which focuses on using the Creative Arts, particularly Drama to improve student literacy.
In addition groups perform in the annual Arts North Drama Festival which is held at Nida.
Music
Music teachers provide weekly forty minute music lessons. Each class has lessons for two terms of each year.
Children participate in a wide variety of music activities covering all three main areas of primary music education; performing (singing, playing, moving), listening and organising sound.
During these varied activities children are introduced to musical concepts through a wide range of musical repertoire across many styles and eras. Each year visiting artists such as Musica Viva and Oz Opera provide the children with fantastic musical experiences and long lasting memories.
All music lessons at Curl Curl North take place in a fun and supportive environment where all children are encouraged to ‘have a go'.
