Transition to Kindergarten
At Curl Curl North PS, we take great pride in our highly effective Kindergarten Transition Program, aimed at ensuring that the move to big school is a fun and smooth experience for both preschoolers and their parents. We understand that transitioning to Kindergarten is a crucial step in a child's educational journey, and we are here to support them every step of the way.
Our program features engaging activities such as three ‘Coffee and Play’ sessions for parents and preschoolers, providing an opportunity for families to connect with one another while the little ones enjoy playtime in a friendly, relaxed setting.
A delightful Teddy Bear's Picnic invites children to bring their favourite stuffed animals and join in a morning of fun-filled activities in the Kindergarten classrooms. Additionally, two informative classroom visits allow new Kindergarten students to explore their future learning environment and meet some of our Kindergarten teachers and friends they will be starting school with the following year.
Together, we aim to make Kindergarten transition a memorable and positive experience for everyone, setting the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

Coffee & Play
Curl Curl North PS offer three Coffee & Play sessions throughout the year which aim at introducing new Kindergarten students to their school environment. Our Coffee and Play sessions provide an opportunity for the parents of our incoming students to enjoy a casual morning tea. Set in a relaxed atmosphere within our school hall, parents mingle with fellow parents whose children will also be starting Kindergarten the following year. Meanwhile, the children engage in playtime with their soon-to-be classmates, offering them a chance to make new friends before officially starting school.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic
Each year, our new Kindergarten students, along with their beloved teddy bears, are warmly invited to participate in a special Teddy Bear’s Picnic. This event is designed to provide a happy and welcoming introduction to school life, helping children feel comfortable and excited about starting Kindergarten.
During the picnic, the future Kindergarten students take part in a variety of engaging activities alongside their peers who will be joining them the following year.
On arrival, students say goodbye to their parents at the school gate, marking an important step in fostering their independence. At this point, each child is warmly greeted by a Year 5 buddy, who will accompany them to the Kindergarten classrooms.
Overall, the Teddy Bear’s Picnic is a cherished tradition at Curl Curl North Public School, fostering a sense of community, friendship, and excitement among our youngest students as they prepare to begin their Kindergarten adventure.

Classroom Visits
New Kindergarten students are warmly invited to participate in two classroom visits scheduled for November. These visits are designed to help children become familiar with the school environment and ease their transition into Kindergarten. Upon arrival at the school gate, each child will be greeted by a friendly Year 5 buddy who will escort the new Kindies to a Kindergarten classroom, providing a welcoming and reassuring presence.
During the classroom visits, the new students will have the opportunity to interact and play with their future classmates, helping them to build early friendships and feel more comfortable in their new social setting. Activities will include a variety of free play options tailored to encourage creativity, cooperation, and exploration. These play-based experiences are essential in fostering social skills and confidence in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
Overall, these classroom visits aim to create a positive and supportive introduction to school life, helping new Kindergarten students feel safe, connected, and excited about starting their educational journey.
